Algeria condemns Colombia's opening of an embassy in Jerusalem and calls for urgent UN action

On Wednesday, October 14, the Algerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs strongly condemned Colombia's decision to open an embassy in the occupied city of Jerusalem. Algiers denounced the move as an unacceptable and illegitimate attempt to alter the city's legal and historical status, violating international resolutions. The Algerian government warned that this unilateral action sabotages the two-state solution and risks destabilizing the region further. Consequently, Algeria urged the UN Security Council to fulfill its legal and moral responsibilities to halt such actions that aim to impose a new reality in occupied Palestinian territories. Maintaining its steadfast support for the Palestinian cause, Algeria insists that East Jerusalem must be the capital of a Palestinian state based on June 4, 1967, borders. The Arab League has echoed these concerns, calling on Colombia to reverse its decision.
