Stricter Penal Code: Death Penalty for Child Abduction and Arson

Significant amendments to the Penal Code have been officially enacted, introducing harsher penalties for serious crimes. Article 291 now mandates the death penalty for the abduction, torture, or sexual assault of children, with no option for mitigating circumstances. Regarding arson, Article 395 bis imposes capital punishment on anyone intentionally setting fire to forests, fields, or agricultural produce. Furthermore, the death penalty applies to arson linked to foreign influence, organized crime, or acts jeopardizing national security, the economy, or the environment. Individuals who incite, fund, or facilitate such crimes, including through social media, face the death penalty, a punishment also applicable if an intentional fire results in loss of life.
