Sahrawi prisoners from the Gdeïm Izik group have called off their 23-day hunger strike following assurances from prison authorities regarding their demands. The League for the Protection of Sahrawi Prisoners has emphasized that these commitments must lead to tangible improvements, specifically the end of their dispersal across various prisons, their consolidation into a single facility in Western Sahara, and better detention conditions. Key demands also include access to medical care, an end to solitary confinement, and preserved family contact. Furthermore, the organization condemned the violent crackdown on a solidarity protest in Rabat on October 12, which led to multiple arrests, and denounced the denial of visitation rights for Claude Mangin, wife of prisoner Naâma Asfari. The League remains committed to monitoring the situation to ensure the fulfillment of these promises and compliance with UN recommendations.
