Despite a general slowdown in the Spanish property market, Alicante remains a key hub for international investment, with Algerian nationals leading the way as the top foreign buyers. During the first quarter of 2026, Algerians completed 104 out of 584 foreign real estate transactions in the city, surpassing Ukrainian and Italian investors. Algerian buyers typically prefer older apartments in popular urban neighborhoods, seeking properties of 75 to 80 square meters with an average investment of 132,079 euros. Most of these deals are settled in cash, as non-EU residents often face difficulties in accessing Spanish bank loans. With 16,000 to 17,000 Algerians living in the province, Alicante continues to serve as a vital link for family and economic ties across the Mediterranean.
