Israel threatens to expand occupation in Lebanon

Israel's Defense Minister, Israel Katz, has threatened to expand the nation's military occupation into the Nabatiyeh and Litani regions of Lebanon. He warned that any rocket or drone attacks would trigger strikes on Beirut's southern suburbs. Katz stated that Israel intends to permanently incorporate these areas into a so-called "security zone," displacing local residents, and insisted that Israeli forces will remain in southern Lebanon until Hezbollah is fully disarmed. The minister noted that over 60 Lebanese villages and 23,000 homes have been destroyed, creating a 700-square-kilometer buffer zone and displacing around 200,000 people. These comments follow military discussions held in Florida under U.S. mediation. Since March 2nd, the ongoing conflict has resulted in thousands of casualties and the displacement of 1.5 million people, despite a June 26th framework agreement aimed at the withdrawal of Israeli forces.
