Algeria unveils seed distribution and grain storage strategy for the 2026-2027 season

The National Interprofessional Office for Cereals has announced its roadmap for the 2026-2027 agricultural season, aiming to supply up to 3 million quintals of wheat and barley seeds. According to official Boumediene Omrani, the government has established 78 single-window offices to streamline access to financing, insurance, and farming inputs for producers. The plan involves redistributing surplus seed stocks between regions based on demand and utilizing a dedicated transport fleet. Regarding infrastructure, the country is currently developing 30 large-scale concrete grain silos alongside 16 metallic silos already entering service. Supported by the 'Agro Drive' company for agricultural mechanization, the strategy expects an increase in cultivated land, particularly in the deep South, as part of a national effort to improve food security through technology, irrigation, and modernized storage.
