Record-breaking rainfall triggers floods in Istanbul

Istanbul has experienced its heaviest rainfall since 1942, with precipitation reaching 261 kilograms per square meter. Istanbul Governor Davut Gül stated that the downpour caused severe flooding, disrupting both road traffic and air travel. The disaster resulted in two deaths and three injuries, none of which are life-threatening. Emergency teams have successfully evacuated 2722 people, with limited operations still underway at 14 locations. Air traffic was significantly impacted, with 51 flights diverted and 19 cancelled. Authorities have suspended classes in all public and private schools for Friday to conduct safety inspections of school buildings.
