Minister of Labor, Employment and Social Security, Mohamed Hattab, confirmed that individuals receiving unemployment benefits are not eligible for survivor's pensions or death benefits. In a response to a parliamentary inquiry, the Minister explained that recipients are considered direct social insurance policyholders under Executive Decree 22-70, which grants them and their dependents access to medical insurance benefits. The unemployment benefit program, regulated since February 2022, serves as a support mechanism for first-time job seekers. The Minister emphasized that since the State covers their social security contributions, they do not fall under the legal definition of dependents outlined in the 1983 Social Insurance Law.
