Algeria aims to manufacture a local car by the end of 2028

President Abdelmadjid Tebboune announced on Wednesday, October 14, 2026, that Algeria intends to produce a national car by the end of 2028. During a national meeting with economic operators in Algiers, the President stated that this goal is tied to ongoing partnerships with German and Italian companies. He emphasized that the project goes beyond assembly, focusing on the domestic manufacturing of key components like gearboxes and tires to reduce import reliance. This initiative is part of a broader economic policy to strengthen local industry, building on the progress of the automotive sector, including the Fiat plant in Oran and ongoing industrial projects involving brands such as Hyundai, Chery, and Opel.
