Algeria and 18 nations condemn Colombia’s decision to open an embassy in Jerusalem

Algeria, along with 18 other countries, has strongly condemned Colombia's decision to open an embassy in Jerusalem. In a joint statement, the foreign ministers of these nations stated that this move contradicts UN Security Council resolutions and undermines global efforts to achieve a just and lasting peace through the two-state solution. The signatories emphasized that any attempt to alter the legal or historical status of occupied Jerusalem is null and void, citing relevant UN resolutions, particularly Security Council resolutions 476 and 478 of 1980, which call for the removal of diplomatic missions from the city. The group has called upon the Colombian government to reverse this decision and abide by international law regarding the rights of the Palestinian people to an independent state with East Jerusalem as its capital.
