Algeria strengthens its security and diplomatic stance in the Sahel region

Algeria is adopting a firm strategy to address escalating security threats in the Sahel, while upholding its strategic interests and diplomatic principles. President Abdelmadjid Tebboune emphasized that the country will not approach current regional challenges in the same manner as before, highlighting the role of external actors in destabilizing neighboring nations like Niger and Mali by sponsoring armed groups. Tebboune reaffirmed that the stability of Niger is integral to Algeria's own national security, noting the military's readiness to intervene under constitutional provisions if necessary. Meanwhile, the People's National Army leadership, headed by General of the Army Saïd Chanegriha, continues to prioritize military cooperation and economic development. Strengthening regional infrastructure and promoting development projects remain key pillars to insulating the area against terrorism and organized crime, countering suspicious foreign interference.
