Fuel prices: Minister reassures public and highlights strong hydrocarbon sector performance

While presenting his ministry's budget to Parliament, the Minister of Hydrocarbons denied any plans to increase fuel prices, clarifying that Article 218 of the 2027 Finance Bill does not aim to raise costs. The minister reviewed the sector's performance for the first nine months of 2026, noting revenues of 37.5 billion dollars driven by higher crude oil prices. He announced 17 new hydrocarbon discoveries and a strategy to increase production to 201 million tonnes of oil equivalent by 2030 through investments exceeding 71 billion dollars. Discussions also covered seawater desalination plants, petrochemical projects, international partnership expansion, the resumption of negotiations for the trans-Saharan gas pipeline, and initiatives to reduce the sector's carbon footprint.
