President Abdelmadjid Tebboune has directed the government to establish a public company aimed at regulating the agricultural market and managing production surpluses. This entity will purchase excess produce, specifically targeting staple goods like potatoes and tomatoes, directly from farmers to store and redistribute them based on market demand. The initiative seeks to curb price volatility, combat speculation, and protect farmers' incomes during peak production periods. This structural measure supports the agricultural sector, which accounts for 15% of the national GDP. Furthermore, the President highlighted the objective of achieving self-sufficiency in grain production by the end of 2027. By improving storage capacity and supply chain management, the state intends to ensure consistent market supply and price stability for consumers.
