Severe drought declared across parts of England following record low rainfall

UK authorities have officially declared a state of 'severe drought' in parts of southern and south-western England, including Cornwall and Devon, following an unprecedented period of extreme weather. The country experienced its hottest summer on record, compounded by a lack of rainfall unseen since data collection began in 1836. Over 80 percent of England is currently facing drought conditions, with water reservoir levels in some key areas dropping below 20 percent of their capacity—well below the typical 75 percent expected for this time of year. This environmental crisis has severely affected the agricultural and fishing sectors, while increasing the risk of difficult-to-contain wildfires. The government has urged the public to reduce water usage, imposed restrictions in several regions, and continues to coordinate with environmental agencies and water companies to manage the crisis.
