Danish giant AP Moller Maersk expands into Algerian port operations

Danish conglomerate AP Moller Maersk has entered the Algerian port sector by acquiring 100% of Singapore-based Portek International from Japan’s Mitsui & Co. Portek operates various port facilities globally, including terminal assets in Bejaia, Algeria. The company manages substantial annual volumes, handling millions of tons of bulk cargo along with thousands of containers and vehicles. Pending regulatory approval, Maersk intends to integrate Portek’s operations into its infrastructure strategy. The group plans to work closely with existing local teams to enhance operational efficiency, governance, safety protocols, and sustainability efforts, with a particular focus on reducing environmental emissions.
