President Tebboune orders urgent measures to stabilize consumer goods prices

During a Council of Ministers meeting, President Abdelmadjid Tebboune issued instructions to implement immediate mechanisms to monitor the prices and availability of essential consumer goods across the country. The directives include regulating intermediaries and launching an investigation into the role of importers in price manipulation for imported meat. The President instructed local authorities to manage surplus production through storage to maintain market stability and mandated the Ministry of Trade to cap profit margins on essential items like vegetables and meat. Additionally, price monitoring will be decentralized under the oversight of provincial governors, supported by increased field inspections and the development of a digital database to trigger rapid interventions whenever price spikes are detected.
