Polisario Front rejects US draft resolution on Western Sahara
The Polisario Front has formally written to the UN Security Council to reject the preliminary draft proposed by the United States regarding Western Sahara. The group argues that the draft constitutes a dangerous departure from international law and decolonization principles, undermining the foundations of the UN-led peace process. The letter states that the proposal ignores relevant Security Council resolutions and attempts to impose predetermined outcomes, which the Front warns will trigger regional instability. By refusing to accept frameworks that restrict self-determination, the Polisario emphasized that the current draft hinders the rebuilding of trust between the parties. They have threatened to withdraw from the entire peace process unless significant, substantial amendments are made to the document.
