Counter-terrorism: Algeria calls for stronger UN-AU cooperation

At the 11th joint meeting between the UN Security Council and the AU Peace and Security Council in New York, Algeria emphasized the need for a unified and sustainable international response to the growing global terrorist threat. Represented by Ambassador Mohamed Khaled, Algeria urged stakeholders to transition from diagnostic discussions to practical actions, particularly to address terrorism in the Sahel and its links to organized crime and digital technologies. The AU member states commended President Abdelmadjid Tebboune’s leadership in the fight against extremism and highlighted the adoption of the 'Algerian Guiding Principles' by the UN, which aim to prevent the abuse of emerging financial technologies for terrorist financing. The meeting also covered peacekeeping, youth roles in peace processes, and the protection of children in armed conflicts.
