Sétif: Major Healthcare Projects Aim to Expand Capacity and Ease Hospital Congestion

The wilaya of Sétif is boosting its healthcare sector through a comprehensive array of projects designed to add approximately 1,000 hospital beds. Overseen by the Directorate of Public Equipment, this initiative seeks to reduce pressure on existing hospitals by building specialized facilities and improving local access to care. Key projects include a 500-bed university hospital in Chouf Lekdad, a 240-bed facility in El Eulma, and specialized units for surgical emergencies (120 beds) and head and neck care (60 beds). Efforts are also underway to finalize local healthcare services, such as dialysis centers in Béni Aziz and Béni Ourtilane, along with multi-service clinics in Salah Bey and the Abid Ali district. While the progress of these projects varies—ranging from ongoing construction to waiting for administrative approvals—authorities are emphasizing the need to accelerate completion and equipment installation to ensure that these facilities can effectively serve the local population and alleviate the strain on the current system.
