Algeria and South Africa strengthen energy cooperation

Minister of Energy and Mines Mohamed Arkab met with South African Minister of International Relations and Cooperation Ronald Lamola in Algiers to discuss deepening bilateral ties in the hydrocarbon sector. This meeting follows the state visit of President Cyril Ramaphosa to Algeria in December 2024. The discussions covered the entire oil and gas value chain, from exploration and production to refining, petrochemicals, and the marketing of LNG and LPG. Both sides explored ways to enhance collaboration between Sonatrach and the South African National Petroleum Company (SANPC), as well as cooperation between technical regulatory agencies. Algeria encouraged South African firms to participate in the upcoming "Algeria Bid Round 2026". Minister Arkab expressed Algeria's readiness to facilitate joint ventures, while Minister Lamola praised Algeria's significant position in the African energy sector.
