Baladna Algeria: A strategic investment for food security

The Algerian-Qatari joint venture 'Baladna Algeria' aims to establish a fully integrated agricultural and industrial hub in the southern regions of Algeria. The project focuses on the production of milk powder and red meat, linking cattle farming with fodder cultivation and industrial processing to decrease imports and create job opportunities. During an inspection visit in Adrar, the Minister of Agriculture highlighted the project's role in bolstering food security and economic sovereignty through a model that bridges land reclamation with industrial manufacturing. The ministry is providing technical support and veterinary oversight to ensure the project's success. The site tour covered progress on quarantine facilities, the milk processing plant, and cornfields, as well as the status of water well drilling and infrastructure development.
