National Market: New Regulations for Sales Intermediaries and Profit Margins
Minister of Internal Trade and National Market Regulation, Amel Abdellatif, announced in Algiers that the government is drafting new regulations to govern sales intermediaries and set profit margin caps across production and distribution chains. This move follows the directives of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, aimed at maintaining basic commodity prices and protecting citizens' purchasing power. While presenting the 2027 Finance Bill to the National People's Assembly, the Minister highlighted the necessity of daily field monitoring regarding the availability and pricing of essential goods. Furthermore, a joint effort with the Interior Ministry and the High Commission for Digitalization is underway to establish a central database and an early warning system to detect abnormal price hikes. The strategy also includes improving local production storage management and monitoring imported goods to ensure market stability and prevent commercial irregularities.
