The General Directorate of Forests reports substantial progress in the Green Dam rehabilitation and expansion program, with over 42,000 hectares planted between 2023 and 2026. A new phase for the 2026-2027 season targets the planting of more than 34,000 additional hectares. Launched by the President of the Republic in October 2023 with a budget of 75 billion dinars, the project aims to restore ecosystems and combat desertification by promoting fruit tree cultivation for rural farmers. Beyond planting, the initiative focuses on economic development by establishing recreational forests and granting exploitation licenses to thousands of citizens to enhance the value of national forest assets.
