The Tizi-Ouzou region is gearing up for a highly successful 2026/2027 olive season, defying typical production cycles. While olive trees usually follow a biennial pattern of alternating between high and low yields, local trees have managed to sustain strong production for two consecutive years. According to local phytosanitary inspector Kaci Boukhalfa, heavy spring rains were the key factor in this achievement. In a typical 'off' year, yields usually drop to between 10% and 20%, but forecasts for this season suggest maintaining 60% of the previous year's volume, a result deemed remarkable by agricultural authorities.
