Arkab Warns of Global Market Imbalance Due to Underinvestment in Energy

At the 25th World Petroleum Congress (WPC Energy 2026) in Riyadh, Minister of State and Minister of Energy and Mines, Mohamed Arkab, stated that global demand for oil and gas is set to grow in the coming decades, driven by urbanization and industrial expansion. He warned that insufficient investment in production and infrastructure could trigger severe market volatility and supply shortages. Arkab emphasized that securing the future requires long-term planning and investment across the entire energy value chain, including refining and petrochemicals. He highlighted Algeria's efforts to attract international partnerships through its 2019 hydrocarbons law. Furthermore, the minister pointed to the Trans-Saharan Gas Pipeline (TSGP) project, now in its implementation phase, as a cornerstone for African integration and global energy security. He concluded that long-term stability depends on balanced cooperation between producers and consumers and the development of robust energy infrastructure.
