Authorities in Souk Ahras, specifically the economic and cybercrime units, have dismantled a national network engaged in online fraud targeting students and researchers. The group operated a fake Facebook page named "Academic Center for Researcher Support," luring victims with false promises of help in preparing and publishing scientific papers. Victims were directed to WhatsApp to transfer money into third-party postal accounts. Investigations uncovered the use of virtual assets for money laundering, identifying 35 victims across the country and links to 419 identities associated with phone SIM cards. The suspects were brought before the public prosecutor at the Taoura court, who ordered them to be detained on charges including conspiracy, electronic fraud, money laundering, and forgery.
