Ahmed Attaf calls for urgent UN Security Council reform to address historical injustice against Africa

Speaking at the 14th ministerial meeting of the African Union's Committee of Ten in Tripoli, Minister of State and Foreign Affairs Ahmed Attaf stated that reforming the UN Security Council is a matter of justice and international legitimacy. He emphasized that the historical marginalization of Africa, which lacked a voice during the founding of the international order in 1945, must be rectified. Attaf argued that the continent must move from bearing the consequences of global decisions to participating in their creation. He reaffirmed Algeria's support for the unified African stance, calling for persistent political efforts to secure permanent seats and veto power for Africa, asserting that this would strengthen the Council's credibility and global stability.
