CNR Pension Adjustments: The Threshold Effect Causing Pay Inequities

As of May 1, 2026, Algerian CNR retirement pensions have been adjusted with a two-tier system: a 10% increase for pensions at or below 20,000 DZD, and 5% for those above. Based on the April 16, 2026 decree, this applies to retirees who were already drawing pensions before May 1, 2025. This structure has resulted in a 'threshold effect,' where some pensions originally higher than 20,000 DZD now result in a lower total monthly amount than those receiving the 10% increase. The adjustment also covers disability pensions and occupational accident benefits. This initiative, costing over 88 billion dinars, impacts more than 3.5 million beneficiaries. The revaluation is automatic, and retirees can verify their new pension amounts via their payment statements or the official online portal, with the option to contact their local CNR office for any clarifications.
