Algerian Parliament to hold extraordinary session on military cooperation with Niger

The Algerian Parliament is preparing to hold extraordinary sessions this Sunday, as members of both the National People's Assembly and the Council of the Nation have received official summons. While the agenda remained highly confidential, reports indicate that these sessions are intended to ratify a presidential decree authorizing the deployment of the People's National Army outside the country's borders. This action is based on Article 91 of the Constitution and focuses on activating military cooperation with Niger. In accordance with Article 37 of the organic law governing parliamentary-government relations, the proposed text will be put to a vote without debate or the possibility of amendment. This development follows recent high-level meetings between Algerian and Nigerien officials, aiming to strengthen strategic and security ties, specifically regarding counter-terrorism and shared border security.
