Major Scam Foiled: Criminals Tried Selling Salt as Drugs for 1.5 Billion Centimes

The Chéraga court is presiding over the trial of a five-member gang from Maghnia accused of orchestrating a fraudulent drug deal. The defendants attempted to sell packages of salt, disguised as processed cannabis, to a victim in Algiers for a sum of 1.5 billion centimes. Security forces intercepted the suspects after tracking a Renault Symbol used in the operation. During the arrest, the police had to use stun guns to overcome the suspects' violent resistance. In court, the primary detainee denied any involvement in the plot, claiming he only assisted a friend in renting the car. The defense argued for acquittal, emphasizing that the seized items were merely salt and not illegal narcotics. The prosecutor has requested a seven-year prison sentence, with the final ruling scheduled for next week.
