Algerian Sahara Blend leads OPEC basket amid global market disruptions

Algeria's "Sahara Blend" crude oil emerged as the most expensive in the OPEC basket in September 2026, reaching a price of 118.49 dollars per barrel. This milestone occurs as the organization reduced its global demand growth forecasts for the sixth consecutive time, fueled by instability in the Strait of Hormuz which continues to affect global supply chains. Meanwhile, Algeria's production surpassed the one million barrels per day mark, marking its highest level since April 2023, in line with OPEC+ efforts to adjust supply amidst ongoing global market volatility.
