Algeria strives to develop a fully integrated automotive industry
Algeria is shifting its automotive strategy from simple vehicle assembly to a comprehensive, integrated industrial sector. During a visit to Oum El Bouaghi, Minister of Industry Farid Kourtel highlighted the presence of 200 companies specialized in spare parts, lubricants, and accessories, noting that the primary challenge is to unify this industrial network. A new national database is being created to bridge the gap between local suppliers and car manufacturers. The western region, led by Oran, acts as the central hub for major global brands and local subcontractors. Supported by the AIDA commission of the Algerian Economic Renewal Council (CREA), the national roadmap aims to master the entire value chain, from engines and transmissions to plastic components and braking systems. This project seeks to foster industrial autonomy, generate skilled employment, and boost non-hydrocarbon exports through the collaboration of local engineers, startups, and international partners.
