The Minister of Post and Telecommunications, Sid Ali Zerrouki, has announced that Algeria aims to exceed 4.4 million Fiber-to-the-Home (FTTH) subscriptions by the end of 2026. This target follows the recent milestone of surpassing 4 million subscribers at the beginning of October. Furthermore, plans are in place to connect an additional 300,000 households during the first quarter of 2027. The sector has seen exponential growth, rising from 53,000 subscribers in 2020 to over 4 million, with 1.4 million homes connected in the first nine months of 2026 alone. Parallel to this infrastructure expansion, the cost of internet access has dropped by 76%, with the 100 Mbps plan now priced at 2,400 DA compared to 9,999 DA in 2020. Minister Zerrouki emphasized that this development is essential for digital transformation, enhancing public services, and strengthening digital sovereignty, while confirming the ongoing transition from legacy copper networks to modern fiber technology.
