UN warns of unfolding humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza

UN Special Rapporteur Francesca Albanese has described the situation in Gaza as horrific, stating that the explosive power used against the strip is equivalent to six nuclear bombs. Official figures indicate that over 74,000 Palestinians have been killed and 157,000 injured following the deployment of 223,000 tons of explosives. Albanese warned that the population faces a slow death characterized by disease, malnutrition, and the displacement of 1.8 million people into severely overcrowded areas. Meanwhile, the International Organization for Migration (IOM) has raised alarms over a severe shelter crisis with winter approaching, noting that nearly every resident requires aid. The organization highlighted that ongoing restrictions on importing tents and repair materials continue to hinder relief efforts for the displaced.
