Price Control: Algeria Launches Digital Tools to Regulate the Market

The Ministry of Internal Trade and Market Regulation has unveiled a digital platform and a mobile application to monitor market prices and allow citizens to report commercial irregularities. Official Nourredine Haridi stated that this initiative follows presidential directives aimed at ensuring market stability and protecting consumer purchasing power. The new system includes the periodic publication of wholesale and retail prices, alongside mechanisms to cap prices for essential goods such as vegetables, meat, and legumes, based on profit margin analysis. Efforts to combat fraud and speculation are being reinforced through mandatory invoicing. The ministry reported that 17 billion dinars in trade violations were identified, with over two million field interventions resulting in legal action against more than 144,000 non-compliant merchants. Minister Amel Abdellatif has emphasized the need for intensified field inspections to guarantee the availability of essential products and the effectiveness of decentralized market monitoring across the country.
