Western Sahara: Natural resources central to legal and international battle

During a roundtable organized by the Union of Saguia el-Hamra and Rio de Oro workers, Sahrawi officials emphasized the strategic role of natural resources in their pursuit of independence. Presidential advisor Abi Béchraï El-Bachir stated that the path to self-determination is intrinsically linked to sovereignty over the territory's wealth. He highlighted that court rulings in Europe and Africa have legally established the distinction between Western Sahara and Morocco, while recognizing the Polisario Front as the sole legitimate representative. He asserted that exploiting these resources without the consent of the Sahrawi people is a violation of international law, and urged for sustained legal and diplomatic action to challenge the economic interests sustaining the occupation.
