Algeria and Japan collaborate on a technical guide for earthquake-resistant building design

Algeria and Japan have launched a joint technical guide focused on enhancing the seismic safety of existing medium-rise reinforced concrete buildings. The guide provides a scientific framework for evaluating structural integrity and determining reinforcement strategies to protect lives and property. Officials from both countries highlighted this project as a milestone in their ongoing partnership, with a particular focus on disaster prevention and post-earthquake management. The initiative, which involved experts and institutions, complements previous cooperation efforts, such as the delivery of specialized scientific equipment in June 2025 and structural testing conducted on pilot buildings earlier that year to assess earthquake resilience.
