Algerian student wins gold medal at international robotics competition

15-year-old Sabrina Aït El Hocine, a student at Mustapha Lachref High School in Bab-Ezzouar, achieved international success by winning gold at the First Global Challenge 2026 in Incheon, South Korea. Along with four teammates, she developed an innovative mini-robot designed to detect forest fires early using thermal cameras, a solution aimed at alerting forest guards before fires spread. The competition gathered participants from nearly 190 countries to foster skills in engineering and science. Sabrina, who is currently studying in a mathematics track, expressed pride in representing her country and shared that the team also had the opportunity to visit historical sites in Seoul and Incheon. She plans to pursue a career as a mechanical or automation engineer.
