The National Independent Authority for Elections has released the preliminary data regarding the validation of candidate files for the upcoming municipal and provincial elections on November 28, 2026. Out of 5,631 filed municipal lists, 3 were rejected, while 6 out of 434 provincial lists were turned down, largely due to missing documentation or signature requirements. The demographics of the candidates show that 54.02% are aged 40 or under, 11.86% are women, and 48.48% hold university degrees. The Authority detailed several reasons for disqualification, ranging from age and electoral registration issues to tax arrears, unresolved military service status, and criminal records or links to illicit financial activities. Candidates have the right to appeal before administrative courts, and the deadline for submitting substitute candidates to local coordinators is October 28, 2026.
