Algeria secures large wheat shipment in international tender

Algeria’s state grains agency has purchased between 660,000 and 720,000 tonnes of milling wheat in an international tender that closed on Tuesday. Prices for the supplies range from $326 to $326.50 per tonne, including cost and freight. The shipments are expected to originate from various regions, including the Baltic Sea, Russia, Romania, Bulgaria, and Argentina. Deliveries from main supply regions like Europe are scheduled for December, whereas shipments from South America, India, or Australia are set to be dispatched one month earlier. This purchase occurs amid global market constraints following trade disruptions in the Black Sea. Notably, the preference to bypass French wheat persists, a trend market observers link to recent diplomatic tensions. This latest acquisition follows a previous tender in mid-September, where the agency procured 500,000 tonnes at a lower price point.
