Schengen Visa Statistics 2025: Higher Rejection Rates in Algeria Compared to Neighbors

According to 2025 statistics from the European Commission, 31.3% of Schengen visa applications filed in Algeria were refused, significantly higher than the rates in Morocco (19.2%) and Tunisia (19.6%). Out of 444,577 applications processed in Algeria, 137,860 were denied. While France and Spain receive the majority of files, France's rejection rate in Algeria remains notably higher than its rates in neighboring countries. Additionally, the proportion of multiple-entry visas granted to Algerian applicants remains lower than those issued in Tunisia or Morocco. Regional disparities are also visible, with the French consulate in Oran recording higher rejection levels than its counterpart in Algiers. Each visa application is subject to an individual assessment based on nine legal grounds, although official data does not break down the specific reasons for these high rejection figures.
