Towards a New Economic Era: Algeria’s Strategy for 2027

During the annual meeting between the President and business leaders at the CIC in Algiers, the roadmap for Algeria to become an emerging economic power with a GDP target of $400 billion was highlighted. Efforts to diversify the economy away from hydrocarbons have successfully reduced annual import spending from $62 billion to $42 billion. The President urged stakeholders to move away from past mismanagement practices and focus on building a social-market economy, with 2027 marked as a key transition point. Acknowledging current disruptions in import operations caused by misinterpretations of trade restrictions, the President announced the creation of a specialized committee. Formally established by the Prime Minister, this body is tasked with regulating import files to ensure that essential industrial inputs and scarce goods reach the market, balancing the protection of local industry with economic necessity.
