Minister of Agriculture, Sid Ali Khaldi, visited the 'Baladna' project site in Adrar, a major joint investment between Algeria and Qatar, to review progress. Construction of the powdered milk facility is currently 28% complete. Covering 219,000 hectares, the project is designed to bolster national food security and reduce import dependency. Starting this November, an unprecedented airlift operation will begin importing 30,000 dairy cows. The initiative eventually aims to manage a herd of 224,000 cattle, targeting an annual output of 1.7 billion liters of milk and supplying 50% of the country’s domestic demand for powdered milk.
