Emergency Rescue: Turkish Sailor Airlifted off Azzefoun Coast
On Monday, October 26, 2026, Algerian Coast Guard units conducted an urgent medical evacuation operation off the coast of Azzefoun, Tizi Ouzou province. The rescue was initiated following a distress call from the Turkish commercial vessel 'HACI ALI SARI', positioned 28 nautical miles offshore. A 20-year-old Turkish crew member suffered a serious back injury after falling on deck, requiring immediate medical attention. An MS21 search and rescue helicopter from the 560th Regiment successfully airlifted the sailor. He was initially treated at Zeralda Hospital before being transferred to Beni Messous Hospital in Algiers for further care. This mission highlights the commitment of the Algerian Naval Forces to providing humanitarian assistance to mariners in distress in Algerian waters.
