The Green Climate Fund has greenlit a project in Algeria focused on climate change adaptation and desertification control across six provinces, spanning over 454,000 hectares. Supported by the FAO and scheduled for a seven-year duration, the initiative aims to assist 142,000 farmers and livestock breeders while restoring 59,000 hectares of degraded land. Key features include the installation of 190 solar power systems, 240 hydroponic fodder units, and financial support for micro-enterprises specializing in sectors like olives and prickly pears. The project is expected to capture over 540,000 tons of CO2 emissions. The FAO Director-General emphasized the organization's commitment to strengthening Algeria's agricultural and food systems to ensure food security and ecological resilience.
