20th AU-UN Meeting: Algeria Urges Collective Action to Tackle African Security Challenges

Algeria, through its Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the African Union, Mohamed Khaled, participated in the 20th annual consultative meeting between the AU Peace and Security Council and the UN Security Council at the UN headquarters in New York. The discussions focused on addressing political and security crises across Africa, with a specific emphasis on the situation in Sudan. Algeria expressed deep concern over the four-year-long conflict, warning that foreign military and logistical support threatens the nation's sovereignty and territorial integrity. The delegation called for intensified multilateral efforts to secure humanitarian access and protect civilians. Recalling the AU Peace and Security Council’s field mission to Khartoum in August 2026 during Algeria’s chairmanship, the representative stressed that international support must extend beyond security measures to encompass reconstruction and development projects to restore basic services and stability for the Sudanese people.
