Batna: Timgad sees rise in international tourism and launches digital preservation

The archaeological site of Timgad in the Batna province recently welcomed tourist delegations from 20 countries. Visitors toured the Roman city's ruins, including the triumphal arch, the ancient theater, and the local museum’s mosaics. The region has seen a significant boost in international tourism, recording 2,653 foreign visitors since the start of 2024, a notable increase compared to the 600 recorded in 2022. In addition, the Ministry of Culture, alongside experts from the UNESCO World Heritage Centre, has launched a 3D digitization project of the site under the "Dive into Cultural Heritage" initiative. Furthermore, the local culture department has officially registered four prehistoric rock art sites as protected cultural properties, with plans to include six additional historical locations in the future to ensure their preservation and promotion.
