WHO urges Zimbabwe to strengthen health monitoring amidst Ebola spread
The World Health Organization has pushed Zimbabwe to bolster its health defense systems and surveillance capabilities due to the ongoing Ebola outbreak in Africa. During an event in Harare, WHO representative Desta Tiruneh announced 16.82 million dollars in funding to improve diagnostic capacity and emergency response, urging local authorities to prepare for potential imported cases. With the virus crossing borders into several nations, the focus is on containment. Meanwhile, the Democratic Republic of Congo is struggling with its deadliest epidemic to date, reporting over 10,000 confirmed cases and nearly 5,000 deaths since May, complicated by the lack of a specific vaccine for the Bundibugyo strain.
