Professor Bana Ibrahim, a senior official at Niger's Consultative Council for Refoundation, stated that Algeria's decision to deploy military units to protect energy and economic facilities in Niger reflects a strong political commitment to deepening bilateral ties. Initiated by a request from the Nigerien authorities and supported by the 2020 Algerian Constitution, this move is a practical step toward enhancing regional security. Professor Ibrahim emphasized that the success of this coordination will be measured by tangible outcomes, such as the protection of civilians, the security of trade routes, and the fight against organized crime. He noted that security must act as a catalyst for development, particularly for major infrastructure projects like the Trans-Saharan Gas Pipeline. Furthermore, he called for expanding this cooperation to include customs and local authorities, aiming for a sustainable partnership that respects the sovereignty of both countries and strengthens Niger's self-defense capabilities.
