2027 Finance Bill: Increased vehicle tax for high-horsepower cars

The 2027 Finance Bill introduces changes to the automotive tax structure, specifically targeting high-performance vehicles. Article 42 of the bill proposes an amendment to the Stamp Code, increasing the annual vignette for cars with a power of 10 HP or more that are less than six years old. If approved, the tax will rise to 40,000 DA for vehicles under three years old, and 30,000 DA for those aged between three and six years. The rest of the tax brackets remain unchanged. The government justifies this move by stating that the cost of these luxury vehicles necessitates a higher tax rate consistent with their purchase price. This policy reflects a broader approach to taxing wealthier segments of society, including a proposed reduction in the wealth tax threshold to 80 million DA, while avoiding new burdens on middle and lower-income classes.
